  • Haploid Cells: Definition, Function & Examples
    A cell with half the number of chromosomes is called a haploid cell.

    Here's why:

    * Diploid cells have two sets of chromosomes, one from each parent.

    * Haploid cells have only one set of chromosomes.

    Haploid cells are involved in sexual reproduction, where they combine to form a diploid zygote. Examples of haploid cells include:

    * Sperm cells in males

    * Egg cells in females

    * Spores in some plants and fungi
