  • Robert Hooke: The Scientist Who Coined the Term 'Cell'
The scientist credited with naming the biological structure a "cell" is Robert Hooke.

He observed thin slices of cork under a microscope in 1665 and noticed small, box-like compartments that reminded him of the cells monks lived in. He described these compartments as "cells" in his book *Micrographia*.

While Hooke was observing the empty cell walls of dead plant cells, his work laid the foundation for the understanding of cells as the fundamental units of life.
