  • Bacteriophages: Understanding Viruses That Infect Bacteria
A virus that infects a bacterial cell is called a bacteriophage.

Bacteriophages are viruses that specifically target and infect bacteria. They have a complex life cycle and can either replicate within the host cell and eventually lyse (burst) it, or integrate their DNA into the bacterial genome and remain dormant for a period of time.
