There are three main types of muscle cells:
* Skeletal muscle cells: These are responsible for voluntary movement of bones. They are long, cylindrical, and multinucleated.
* Smooth muscle cells: These are found in the walls of internal organs like the stomach, intestines, and blood vessels. They are responsible for involuntary movement and are spindle-shaped and have a single nucleus.
* Cardiac muscle cells: These are found in the heart and are responsible for the rhythmic contractions of the heart. They are branched, striated, and have a single nucleus.
All three types of muscle cells use the sliding filament mechanism to contract, which involves the interaction of proteins called actin and myosin.
