  • Fermentation Location in Cells: Cytoplasm & Anaerobic Energy Production
    Fermentation takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell.

    It's important to note that fermentation is an anaerobic process, meaning it doesn't require oxygen. It's an alternative pathway for generating energy when oxygen is limited. While the majority of cellular respiration occurs in the mitochondria (with oxygen), fermentation provides a way for cells to continue producing ATP when oxygen is unavailable.
