While some species might share a similar number of chromosomes, the exact arrangement and genetic makeup of these chromosomes are vastly different.
For example, chimpanzees, our closest living relative, have a haploid number of 24 chromosomes. This is because one of our chromosomes is believed to have resulted from a fusion of two ancestral chromosomes in the chimpanzee lineage.
So, even though there might be some similarities in the number of chromosomes, the genetic composition and arrangement are fundamentally different across species.
