  • RNA vs. DNA: Understanding Ribose and Deoxyribose Sugars
    RNA and DNA contain different types of sugars:

    * RNA contains ribose sugar.

    * DNA contains deoxyribose sugar.

    The difference between the two sugars lies in the presence of a hydroxyl group (-OH) on the 2' carbon of ribose. Deoxyribose lacks this hydroxyl group at the 2' carbon, hence the prefix "deoxy".

    This difference in structure contributes to the different properties of RNA and DNA.
