  • Retina: The Structure Housing Rods and Cones - Anatomy & Function
The structure that contains cells called rods and cones is the retina.

The retina is the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Rods and cones are photoreceptor cells that convert light into electrical signals, which are then transmitted to the brain.

    * Rods are responsible for vision in low light conditions and detect black, white, and shades of gray.

    * Cones are responsible for color vision and require brighter light to function.
