  • The Stomach: How It Uses Acid to Fight Bacteria & Aid Digestion
The organ that releases acid to kill bacteria in the human body is the stomach.

The stomach produces gastric acid, which is a highly acidic solution (pH 1.5-3.5) containing hydrochloric acid. This strong acid plays a crucial role in:

    * Killing bacteria and other pathogens ingested with food.

    * Breaking down food into smaller particles, making it easier for digestion.

    * Activating digestive enzymes, such as pepsin, which further break down proteins.

While the stomach is the primary organ responsible for acid production, other parts of the digestive system also contribute to a slightly acidic environment, such as the small intestine and saliva.
