  • RNA Hydrolysis: Products and Process Explained
    Hydrolysis of RNA yields:

    * Nucleotides: The basic building blocks of RNA. Each nucleotide consists of:

    * A nitrogenous base: Adenine (A), Guanine (G), Cytosine (C), or Uracil (U)

    * A ribose sugar: A five-carbon sugar

    * A phosphate group: A negatively charged group

    Specifically, hydrolysis of RNA breaks the phosphodiester bonds that link the nucleotides together, releasing the individual nucleotides.

    Note: Hydrolysis can be complete, breaking down RNA into individual nucleotides, or partial, leaving fragments of RNA.
