  • Plant vs. Bacterial Cell Walls: Composition & Structure
The additional layer found around and outside of plant cells is called the cell wall. Bacteria also have a cell wall, but it is made of different materials than the plant cell wall.

    Here's a breakdown:

    * Plant cell walls: Made primarily of cellulose, a complex carbohydrate. It provides structural support and protection for the plant cell.

    * Bacterial cell walls: Made of peptidoglycan, a unique molecule composed of sugars and amino acids. The specific structure of the peptidoglycan layer can be used to classify bacteria (Gram-positive and Gram-negative).

It's important to note that the cell wall is not found in animal cells.
