    The purpose of a cell is to carry out the basic functions of life. This includes:

    * Performing specialized functions: Different types of cells have different structures and functions. For example, nerve cells transmit signals, muscle cells contract, and blood cells carry oxygen.

    * Passing on genetic information: Cells contain DNA, which carries the genetic instructions for building and maintaining an organism. This information is passed on to daughter cells during cell division.

    In essence, the cell is the fundamental unit of life. It is the smallest unit that can carry out all the processes necessary for life.
