  • Understanding DNA: The Genetic Material of Eukaryotic Cells
The genetic material in eukaryotes is deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

    Here's why:

    * Location: DNA is located within the nucleus of eukaryotic cells, organized into structures called chromosomes.

    * Structure: DNA is a double helix, with two strands of nucleotides linked together by hydrogen bonds.

    * Function: DNA carries the genetic instructions for the development, functioning, and reproduction of an organism.

While eukaryotes also have RNA (ribonucleic acid), RNA is not the primary genetic material. RNA is a molecule involved in protein synthesis and other cellular processes, but it is synthesized from DNA.
