  • Prokaryotic Cells: Understanding the Absence of a Membrane-Bound Nucleus
The cells that do not contain a membrane-bound nucleus are called prokaryotes.

    Here's why:

    * Prokaryotic cells are simple, single-celled organisms like bacteria and archaea.

    * They lack a true nucleus, meaning their genetic material (DNA) is not enclosed within a membrane. Instead, the DNA is located in a region called the nucleoid, which is not separated from the rest of the cell.

In contrast, eukaryotic cells, which include plants, animals, fungi, and protists, have a well-defined nucleus that houses their DNA.
