  • Understanding Homozygous Traits: Definition & Examples
A trait produced from two alleles that are alike is called a homozygous trait.

    Here's why:

    * Alleles: These are alternative forms of a gene. You inherit one allele from your mother and one from your father.

    * Homozygous: This means having two identical alleles for a particular trait. For example, if you inherit two alleles for blue eyes (let's say "b"), you would be homozygous for blue eyes (bb).

    * Heterozygous: This means having two different alleles for a trait. For example, if you inherit one allele for blue eyes ("b") and one allele for brown eyes ("B"), you would be heterozygous for eye color (Bb).

Since homozygous individuals have two identical alleles, the trait they express is determined directly by those alleles.
