  • Plant Life Cycles: Understanding the Sporophyte Stage
    The life cycle stage found in plants but not animals is the sporophyte stage.

    Here's why:

    * Plants have an alternation of generations: Plants go through two distinct life cycle stages: the sporophyte and the gametophyte.

    * Sporophyte: The sporophyte stage is the dominant stage in most plants, producing spores through meiosis.

    * Gametophyte: The gametophyte stage produces gametes (sperm and egg) through mitosis.

    Animals, on the other hand, only have a diploid stage. They do not have a distinct, independent haploid gametophyte stage.
