  • Ribosomes: The Protein Factories of the Cell - Function & Location
The organelle responsible for producing proteins in the cell is the ribosome.

    Here's why:

    * Ribosomes are the protein synthesis factories: They read the genetic code from messenger RNA (mRNA) and use that information to link amino acids together, creating polypeptide chains, which fold into functional proteins.

    * They are found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells: This highlights their fundamental role in all life.

    * Ribosomes can be free-floating in the cytoplasm or bound to the endoplasmic reticulum: This location determines the destination and function of the proteins they produce.

While other organelles play roles in protein processing and transport, the ribosome is the primary site of protein synthesis.
