  • Lysosomes: The Cell's Waste Disposal and Recycling Center
The organelle that acts as the garbage disposal system in the cell is the lysosome.

    Here's why:

    * Breakdown of waste: Lysosomes contain powerful enzymes that break down a variety of cellular waste products, including worn-out organelles, debris, and engulfed bacteria or viruses.

    * Recycling: They also recycle the breakdown products back into the cell for reuse.

    * Defense: Lysosomes play a role in cell defense by destroying invading pathogens.

While other organelles contribute to waste removal (like the Golgi apparatus in packaging waste), the lysosome is the primary and most active organelle dedicated to breaking down cellular debris.
