  • Neutrophils: The Body's First Line of Defense via Phagocytosis
The human cell that uses phagocytosis as a mechanism of defense is the neutrophil.

    Here's why:

    * Phagocytosis is the process where a cell engulfs and destroys foreign particles, like bacteria, viruses, and cellular debris.

    * Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell that are the first responders to infection. They are highly mobile and can quickly migrate to sites of inflammation.

    * Neutrophils are highly efficient phagocytes, meaning they are very good at engulfing and destroying foreign particles.

Other white blood cells also participate in phagocytosis, but neutrophils are the most prominent and are considered the primary phagocytic cells in the immune system.
