Ribose vs. Deoxyribose: Understanding the Sugar in RNA and DNA
Ribonucleic acid (RNA) contains
ribose sugar. This is what distinguishes it from deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), which contains deoxyribose sugar.
The difference between ribose and deoxyribose is a single oxygen atom. Ribose has a hydroxyl group (-OH) attached to the 2' carbon, while deoxyribose has a hydrogen atom (-H) at that position.
