  • Lamarckism: The Theory of Acquired Traits and Inheritance
The person most closely associated with the idea that acquired traits could be passed on to offspring is Jean-Baptiste Lamarck.

He proposed this idea in his theory of inheritance of acquired characteristics, also known as Lamarckism.

While Lamarck's theory was influential in its time, it has been largely discredited by modern science. We now understand that the genetic material passed down from parents to offspring is primarily determined by DNA, and not by changes acquired during an organism's lifetime.
