  • Heterotrophs: Organisms That Rely on Other Sources for Food
Organisms that cannot make their own food are called heterotrophs. They obtain their food by consuming other organisms, either living or dead.

Here are some examples of heterotrophs:

    * Animals: All animals are heterotrophs. They eat plants or other animals for energy.

    * Fungi: Fungi are decomposers, meaning they break down dead organic matter for food.

    * Bacteria: Some bacteria are heterotrophs and obtain their food from other organisms or dead organic matter.

    * Parasites: Parasites live inside or on other organisms and obtain their food from their host.

In contrast, organisms that can make their own food are called autotrophs. They use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create their own food through photosynthesis. Examples include plants and algae.
