  • Chloroplasts: The Powerhouse of Plant Cells - Energy Production Explained
The organelle responsible for providing or releasing energy in a plant cell is the chloroplast.

    Here's why:

    * Photosynthesis: Chloroplasts are the sites of photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert light energy from the sun into chemical energy in the form of glucose (sugar).

    * Cellular Respiration: While chloroplasts primarily focus on energy production through photosynthesis, they also participate in cellular respiration, a process that breaks down glucose to release energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the primary energy currency of cells.

While mitochondria are often referred to as the "powerhouses" of the cell, in plant cells, chloroplasts play a more significant role in energy production due to their ability to harness energy from sunlight.
