  • Understanding Plant Food: Photosynthesis and Plant Nutrition
Plants don't eat food in the same way animals do. Instead, they make their own food through a process called photosynthesis. The ingredients they use for this are:

    * Sunlight: Provides the energy for the process.

    * Water: Absorbed through the roots.

    * Carbon dioxide: Taken in from the air through tiny pores called stomata on the leaves.

So, the "food" plants make for themselves is a sugar called glucose. This glucose is then used for growth, repair, and other essential plant functions.
