  • The Nucleus: Where Genetic Information is Stored - Cell Biology
The part of the cell that carries traits from one generation to the next is the nucleus. Here's why:

    * Chromosomes: Inside the nucleus are chromosomes, which are made up of DNA. DNA contains the genetic instructions for building and maintaining an organism.

    * Genes: DNA is organized into segments called genes. Each gene carries the instructions for a specific trait, like eye color or hair texture.

    * Replication: When a cell divides, its DNA is copied, ensuring that each new cell receives a complete set of genetic instructions.

So, when a parent cell divides, it passes on its chromosomes (and therefore its genes) to its offspring. This is how traits are inherited from generation to generation.
