    Green algae, like all eukaryotic organisms, cannot survive without mitochondria because mitochondria are essential for cellular respiration, a process that provides energy for the cell to function. Here's why:

    * ATP Production: Mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cell, responsible for generating ATP (adenosine triphosphate). ATP is the primary energy currency used by cells for all their activities, including growth, movement, and maintaining cell structure.

    Green algae, like other eukaryotes, evolved through endosymbiosis, where a free-living bacterium was engulfed by a larger cell and eventually became the mitochondria. This relationship was so beneficial that it became indispensable for both the host cell and the engulfed bacterium.

    Therefore, green algae, like all eukaryotes, rely heavily on mitochondria for their survival. Without mitochondria, they would not be able to generate enough energy to perform basic cellular functions and would quickly perish.
