  • Protein: What It Is and Where It's Found in the Body
It's not accurate to say that a *part* of the body makes up protein. Here's why:

    * Protein is a molecule: Protein is a type of large molecule that is found throughout the body in many different parts and forms.

    * Building block of cells: Protein is made up of smaller units called amino acids. These amino acids are strung together like beads on a chain to form proteins. These proteins then make up many parts of your body, including:

    * Muscles: Your muscles are primarily made of protein.

    * Bones: While bones are mostly calcium, they also contain protein (collagen) for strength and flexibility.

    * Skin: Your skin is made up of many different proteins.

    * Hair and nails: These are also made of proteins.

    * Enzymes: These proteins help to speed up chemical reactions in your body.

    * Hormones: Some hormones are proteins.

    * Antibodies: These proteins help your body fight off infection.

So, it's not a specific *part* of the body that makes up protein. Instead, protein is a fundamental building block that is found in many different parts of your body and is essential for almost every function.
