  • Nucleic Acids on Nutrition Labels: What You Need to Know
You won't find "nucleic acids" listed on a nutrition label. That's because they are not considered a macronutrient like carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Here's why:

    * Not a primary energy source: While nucleic acids are essential for life, they don't provide significant energy for the body.

    * Already covered in protein: Nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) are made up of nucleotides, which contain nitrogenous bases, sugars, and phosphate groups. These components are already accounted for in the protein content of food. For example, the nitrogenous bases in DNA are similar to those found in certain amino acids.

In summary, nucleic acids aren't considered essential nutrients for humans, and their presence in food is already factored into other macro and micro nutrient categories.
