  • Antonie van Leeuwenhoek: Discoverer of Microscopic Life
    The scientist who is credited with seeing live bacteria in a drop of water is Antonie van Leeuwenhoek.

    He was a Dutch scientist and businessman who is considered to be the father of microbiology. In the 17th century, he used his self-made microscopes to observe tiny organisms in water, which he called "animalcules". These were later recognized as bacteria.
