  • Cell Membranes: Location and Function in Living Organisms
Cell membranes are found enclosing every single cell. They are like the skin of the cell, separating the inside (cytoplasm and all its components) from the outside environment.

Here are some places you'll find cell membranes:

    * Animal cells: Every animal cell has a cell membrane.

    * Plant cells: Plant cells have a cell membrane *in addition to* a cell wall.

    * Bacterial cells: Bacteria also have a cell membrane.

    * Fungal cells: Fungal cells have a cell membrane.

    * Protist cells: Protists, being single-celled organisms, also have a cell membrane.

In short, all living cells have a cell membrane.
