  • Understanding mRNA: The Product of Transcription - DNA to Protein
The RNA that results from transcription is called messenger RNA (mRNA).

    Here's why:

    * Transcription is the process where a DNA sequence is copied into an RNA sequence. This RNA copy is called mRNA.

    * mRNA carries the genetic information from the DNA in the nucleus to the ribosomes in the cytoplasm.

    * At the ribosomes, the mRNA is translated into a protein.

While other types of RNA exist (like tRNA and rRNA), mRNA is the direct result of transcription.
