  • Understanding Allele Segregation: Mendel's First Law
    The separation of alleles is called segregation.

    This refers to the fact that during meiosis, the two copies of each chromosome (and therefore the alleles they carry) separate into different gametes (sperm or egg cells). This ensures that each offspring receives only one allele from each parent for a given trait.

    This principle is also known as Mendel's First Law of Inheritance.
