  • Chromosomes in Mitosis: Understanding Cell Division
The number of chromosomes in a cell made through mitosis is the same as the number of chromosomes in the original cell.

    Here's why:

    * Mitosis is a type of cell division that produces two identical daughter cells from a single parent cell.

    * The goal of mitosis is to create cells for growth, repair, and replacement, all of which require cells with the same genetic information as the original.

    * During mitosis, the chromosomes are duplicated, and then each copy is separated into one of the new daughter cells.

So, if a human cell (with 46 chromosomes) undergoes mitosis, each of the resulting daughter cells will also have 46 chromosomes.
