  • Cocci Bacteria: Types, Characteristics & Diseases
There are many bacteria that are spherical in shape, also known as cocci. Some of the most common examples include:

    * Staphylococcus: These bacteria are often found in clusters resembling grapes. Some species are harmless, while others can cause skin infections, food poisoning, and pneumonia.

    * Streptococcus: These bacteria form chains. Some species cause strep throat, scarlet fever, and pneumonia.

    * Neisseria: These bacteria are typically found in pairs. Some species cause gonorrhea and meningitis.

    * Micrococcus: These bacteria are often found in pairs or tetrads (groups of four). They are generally harmless and can be found in the environment.

    * Pneumococcus: These bacteria are responsible for pneumococcal pneumonia.

    * Enterococcus: These bacteria can cause urinary tract infections and other infections.

This is just a small sampling of the many spherical bacteria that exist. It's important to remember that not all spherical bacteria are harmful, and many play important roles in the environment and in our bodies.
