  • Protein Composition: The Building Blocks of Life - Atoms & Amino Acids
    Proteins are large biomolecules made up of smaller units called amino acids. Each amino acid contains the following atoms:

    * Carbon (C)

    * Hydrogen (H)

    * Oxygen (O)

    * Nitrogen (N)

    In addition to these four core atoms, some amino acids also contain sulfur (S).

    While all proteins contain these basic atoms, the specific sequence and arrangement of amino acids determine the unique structure and function of each protein.
