* Acinar cells: These are the primary secretory cells responsible for producing saliva. They are responsible for the production of the different components of saliva, such as enzymes (like amylase), mucus, and water.
* Ductal cells: These cells line the ducts of the salivary glands. They modify and transport saliva from the acinar cells to the mouth. They also play a role in regulating the composition of saliva by reabsorbing and secreting certain substances.
There are other cell types present in salivary glands, but these two are the most important for their function.
