  • Cilia and Flagella: Understanding Hair-like Structures on Cells
The short, hairlike structures found on the surface of cells are called cilia (singular: cilium).

There are also longer, whip-like structures called flagella (singular: flagellum). Both cilia and flagella are involved in movement, but cilia are typically shorter and more numerous, while flagella are longer and fewer in number.
