  • Understanding Bacterial DNA Shape: Circularity & Variations
Bacterial DNA is typically in a circular shape, forming a single, closed loop.

    However, there are exceptions:

    * Linear DNA exists in some bacteria, like the spirochetes.

    * Plasmids, which are small, extrachromosomal DNA molecules in bacteria, can be either circular or linear.

The circular shape of bacterial DNA allows for efficient replication and packaging within the relatively small bacterial cell.
