  • Cellular Respiration: Which Cells Use It and Why?
All eukaryotic cells carry out cellular respiration. This includes:

    * Animal cells: They rely heavily on cellular respiration as their primary energy source.

    * Plant cells: While they can produce their own energy through photosynthesis, they also utilize cellular respiration to break down sugars and generate ATP.

    * Fungal cells: They obtain their energy through cellular respiration by breaking down organic matter.

    * Protist cells: These single-celled organisms also engage in cellular respiration for energy production.

However, the efficiency and pathways of cellular respiration can vary slightly between different cell types depending on their energy demands and available resources.

For example, muscle cells require a lot of ATP for movement and therefore have a high density of mitochondria, the organelles where cellular respiration occurs.
