    Enzymes are proteins.

    While some RNA molecules can act as enzymes (called ribozymes), the vast majority of enzymes are proteins. Proteins are complex molecules made up of long chains of amino acids, and the specific sequence of these amino acids determines the enzyme's three-dimensional structure and function.
