ATP Synthesis in Mitochondria: Location and Process
ATP synthesis occurs in the inner mitochondrial membrane of mitochondria.
Specifically, it takes place within a complex called ATP synthase. This enzyme uses the proton gradient established across the inner membrane during oxidative phosphorylation to drive the synthesis of ATP from ADP and inorganic phosphate.
