  • Lazzaro Spallanzani: Discoverer Who Debunked Spontaneous Generation
The Italian abbot and biologist whose scientific investigations followed experiments on spontaneous generation was Lazzaro Spallanzani.

He was a key figure in disproving the theory of spontaneous generation, building upon the work of Francesco Redi. Spallanzani conducted experiments using sealed flasks and boiled broth, demonstrating that microorganisms did not arise spontaneously but were instead introduced from the air. This helped to solidify the concept of biogenesis – the idea that living things only arise from other living things.
