  • Transcription: The Essential Precursor to Protein Synthesis
The process that immediately precedes protein synthesis at the ribosome is transcription. Here's why:

    * Transcription: This process involves copying the genetic information from a gene in DNA into a messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule. This mRNA molecule then carries the genetic code for the protein to the ribosome.

    * Translation: This is the process of protein synthesis itself. At the ribosome, the mRNA sequence is read, and the corresponding amino acids are linked together to form a polypeptide chain, which ultimately folds into a functional protein.

In summary: Transcription produces the mRNA blueprint that is then used by the ribosome in translation to build the protein.
