  • Understanding Dominant Traits in Genetics: Definition & Explanation
The form of a trait that appears to mask another the same is called dominant.

    Here's why:

    * Dominant traits are those that express themselves even when only one copy of the gene is present.

    * Recessive traits only express themselves when two copies of the gene are present.

So, when a dominant trait is present, it masks the expression of the recessive trait.
