  • Aristotle's First Biological Classification: Plants and Animals
The two first groups organisms were placed in were plants and animals. This classification system was developed by Aristotle in the 4th century BC and was based on observable characteristics, such as whether an organism could move on its own or not.

This system, while simple, was a significant step forward in understanding the diversity of life on Earth. However, it was later revised as scientists learned more about the complexities of life, leading to the modern classification system we use today.
