    Cells carry out a variety of processes to survive, but the most fundamental ones are:

    * Metabolism: This is the sum of all chemical reactions that occur within a cell. Metabolism includes processes like breaking down nutrients for energy (catabolism) and using energy to build and repair cell components (anabolism).

    * Energy production: Cells need energy to carry out all their functions. This energy is typically produced through cellular respiration, a process that breaks down glucose and releases energy in the form of ATP.

    * Protein synthesis: Proteins are essential for all cell functions. Cells produce proteins through a process called protein synthesis, which involves reading genetic information from DNA and using it to assemble amino acids into proteins.

    * Transport: Cells need to move substances in and out of their environment. This is done through various transport mechanisms, such as diffusion, active transport, and endocytosis/exocytosis.

    * Growth and division: Cells grow and divide to produce more cells. Cell growth involves increasing the size of the cell, while cell division involves creating two identical daughter cells.

    * Homeostasis: Cells need to maintain a stable internal environment, even when the external environment changes. This is achieved through various regulatory mechanisms that control factors like temperature, pH, and water content.

    These are just some of the most important processes that cells carry out to survive. In addition to these, cells also need to be able to respond to stimuli, communicate with other cells, and defend themselves against disease.
