Here's why:
* Dermal tissue is the outer layer of a plant. It's primarily responsible for protection, covering, and sometimes absorption. The main types of dermal tissue are the epidermis (outermost layer) and periderm (in woody plants).
* Food, water, and minerals are transported throughout the plant by specialized vascular tissues:
* Xylem: Conducts water and minerals upwards from the roots to the rest of the plant.
* Phloem: Conducts sugars (produced by photosynthesis) from leaves to other parts of the plant.
While dermal tissue might have some cells involved in absorption (like root hairs), its primary function is not long-distance transport of nutrients.
