There are two G phases:
* G1 (Gap 1): This is the first gap phase, where the cell grows and carries out normal metabolic processes. This phase is also where the cell checks if conditions are suitable for cell division.
* G2 (Gap 2): This is the second gap phase, where the cell prepares for mitosis. It synthesizes the proteins necessary for mitosis and checks for any errors in DNA replication.
It's important to note that the cell cycle is not a continuous process. The G phases are checkpoints where the cell pauses to assess its environment and ensure that it's ready for the next stage.
