  • Parasites: Understanding Organisms Dependent on Hosts
An organism that cannot live on its own is called a parasite.

    Here's why:

    * Parasites rely on another living organism, called a host, for survival.

    * They obtain nutrients, shelter, and other resources from their host.

    * This relationship can be harmful to the host, causing disease or weakening them.

    Examples of parasites include:

    * Tapeworms: Live in the intestines of animals and humans.

    * Fleas: Feed on the blood of mammals and birds.

    * Viruses: Can only reproduce inside living cells.

    * Bacteria: Some bacteria cause disease in their hosts.

It's important to note that some organisms, like symbionts, can live in close association with another organism but don't necessarily harm their host. In fact, they can be beneficial.
