    In a science fair project, the dependent variable is the thing you are measuring or observing to see if it changes as a result of the experiment.

    Think of it like this:

    * Independent Variable: The thing you are changing in your experiment (like the amount of fertilizer you use on a plant).

    * Dependent Variable: The thing you are measuring to see if it changes as a result of the independent variable (like the height of the plant).

    Here are some examples of dependent variables in science fair projects:

    * The amount of time it takes for an ice cube to melt (depending on the temperature of the water).

    * The number of bubbles produced by baking soda and vinegar (depending on the amount of baking soda used).

    * The growth of a plant (depending on the type of fertilizer used).

    * The brightness of a light bulb (depending on the voltage applied).

    In short, the dependent variable is what you are trying to find out in your experiment. It is the "effect" of the independent variable.
